Your Guide to Using the Millbrae Intermodal Station

Getting around the Bay Area on rail has gotten even easier with the opening of the BART-SFO extension stations: South San Francisco, San Bruno, San Francisco International Airport and Millbrae.

Caltrain serves the Millbrae Intermodal Station by rail Monday through Friday. Millbrae is served by Route RRX, Caltrain’s supplemental weekend bus service, which operates through March 2004.

The new Millbrae station represents one of the first cross-platform rail-to-rail links, west of the Mississippi.

Below are some of the things you should know when making the connection with BART.

Transferring between Caltrain and BART

  • Northbound Caltrain passengers can pass through the platform fare gates to transfer to BART, after purchasing a BART ticket.

  • Southbound Caltrain passengers can make the BART connection by going up to the concourse level and then down to the appropriate BART track. BART passengers making a southbound Caltrain connection should do the same.

  • To access San Francisco International Airport, BART is operating a shuttle train every 20 minutes between the Millbrae station and SFO. BART’s SFO shuttle train is located on the easternmost track at the Millbrae station. All passengers must purchase the ticket before boarding.

  • Once a passenger arrives at the airport’s International Terminal, the AirTrain, located upstairs from the BART station, can carry passengers between terminals.
Caltrain and BART tickets are sold separately through each system’s Ticket Vending Machines. Passengers must have the appropriate fare media to board each system’s train.

Caltrain ticket agents are available on the concourse level weekdays between 5:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. BART station agents are available to answer questions and provide information weekdays between 4 a.m. and midnight.

Caltrain provides Translink readers on its platforms but those cards are not currently compatible with BART technology.

BART operates between 4 a.m. and midnight on weekdays, 6 a.m. to midnight on Saturdays and 8 a.m. to midnight on Sundays and holidays.

Bikes

Caltrain bicycle passengers should be aware that BART only allows bicycles during non-peak periods. Both Caltrain and BART offer bicycle storage facilities at the station.
