SamTrans Adopts Day Pass, Changes to Codified Tariff

The San Mateo County Transit District Board of Directors today approved a Day Pass, which will be introduced Jan. 1, 2012. The Day Pass was included in a series of changes to the Codified Tariff, which outlines the fares that the agency charges and the rules for using specific fare media.

The Day Pass will allow SamTrans customers to ride all day using just one pass. The pass, which will cost three times the price of a one-way cash fare, is an attractive choice for riders who ride more than one bus during the day and will be available for Youth, Eligible Discount and Local customers. SamTrans does not offer transfers.

Passengers will be able to purchase Day passes on board the bus, directly from the farebox. The farebox will issue a magnetic Day Pass that customers will “swipe” at the farebox.

Some of the tariff changes include revising language to reflect Clipper® card implementation (such as elimination of paper monthly passes, Muni sticker add on, fee for the card and interagency transfer agreements) and establishing an expiration date for Change cards of one year.

Nearly 40,000 riders take SamTrans on an average weekday.
