SamTrans Seeks New “Coastside” Public Board Member
With the resignation of John Barbour from the San Mateo County
Transit District Board of Directors, a new position has opened
up for a Public Member from the Coastside region of the county.
Eligible applicants must reside in the coastal zone of the county
and may not have held elected public office within the previous 12 months.
This Public Member will be appointed by six members of the SamTrans
board -- the three members appointed by the Board of Supervisors and
the three members appointed by the Cities Selection Committee. The
seat has an unexpired term, which ends Dec. 31, 2006.
The Board consists of nine members: three members appointed by the
Board of Supervisors, two of whom are members of the Board of
Supervisors and one who possesses expertise in the field of
transportation; three members appointed by the Cities Selection Committee,
who are council members at the time of their appointment; and three Public
Members, from specific geographic regions of the county. Each term is four years.
San Mateo County Transit District provides SamTrans bus service throughout
San Mateo County and into parts of San Francisco and Palo Alto. The transit
district also offers Redi-Wheels paratransit service for persons with disabilities
who are unable to ride SamTrans.
