Clipper - Youth and Seniors

SamTrans has phased out its paper monthly passes. The January 2012 Monthly Pass will be available only on the Clipper card.

How to obtain
Youth and Senior Monthly Pass customers who need to obtain a Youth or Senior Clipper card must fill out an application and bring it with proof-of-age to any of the sign-up event locations listed below,  to the SamTrans office at 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San Carlos weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or other Clipper desginated locations.  Youth cards are either mailed within 21 business days or issued at the time of visit depending on the location; Senior cards are issued at the time of visit.

The applying senior must come to the office.  Youth customers or their parent/guardian must appear in person. When you bring in your completed application, please also bring one of the following forms of identification:

  • Birth certificate
  • State-Issued Driver's License
  • State-Issued Identification Card
  • Passport
  • San Francisco City ID Card
  • Matricula Consular/Consular Identification
  • Alien Registration/Permanent Resident Card.

Once you obtain a Clipper card, you may load your pass by going to a Clipper retailer, such as Walgreens, by calling Clipper at 1-877-878-8883 or by visiting clippercard.com. Passes also can be loaded at the SamTrans office.

Note to Youth: A Youth Clipper card will automatically change to an Adult Clipper card once you turn 18
On your 18th birthday, your Youth Clipper card will automatically change to an Adult Clipper card. This means youth discounts will no longer be granted and adult fares will be required. If you have a Youth Monthly Pass on your card, it will be cancelled. This will happen even if it is the beginning or middle of the month. If you have cash value on your card, the Clipper system will automatically start deducting adult fare.

If your card is set up for Automatic reloads and your 18th birthday is coming up, follow these steps:

  • Disable Autoload before the new pass is loaded. This will prevent a product from being loaded that you will not be able to fully use.
  • After your birthday has passed, set up Autoload to load an adult pass.
