Transit Safety Tips

SamTrans wants your trip on the bus to pleasurable and safe. To have the best ride possible, please follow these transit tips:

  • Have your exact fare ready. Bus operators do not make change. Another alternative is to buy one of SamTrans' Monthly passes or a package of tokens, all sold at a discount.
  • Shirts and shoes are required.
  • Smoking is not permitted on buses or at bus stops.
  • Be prepared to board the bus as soon as it arrives.
  • Fold strollers and prepare belongings to be ready to board the bus as soon as it arrives; the bus cannot wait while you get ready.
  • Plan your trip. SamTrans bus operators will stop only at designated bus stops, so know in advance exactly where you want to get off. If you're not sure if the bus stops where you want to get off, ask the bus operator.
  • Yield the front seats to seniors or persons with disabilities.
  • Eating and drinking are not permitted onboard the bus.
  • Passengers may not listen to music on the bus unless they use headphones and keep the volume low.
  • Pull the "Stop Request" cord before the bus reaches your destination bus stop.
  • Please exit the bus via the rear door, allowing boarding passengers the use of the front door.
  • If you use the bike rack, let the bus operator know that you will be removing your bike from the front rack before you get off the bus.
  • And finally, if you see a suspicious package or person please tell the bus operator. You also can call the Transit Police at 1-877-723-7245.
