Transit District Takes Fundraising to Heart
The American Heart Association recently awarded the San Mateo County Transit District
second place in fundraising for the 2002 Heart Walk.
The district's 122-person heart walk team raised nearly $27,000 for the fall event,
earning the district second place out of 70 San Mateo County companies that
participated.
The first place fundraising team was the San Mateo County employee team, one of the
largest employers in the county. The second place transit district, a medium-sized
agency, was followed by Tyco, the third place fundraising winner.
Additionally, the transit district's team captain, Safety Officer Chris Payne, was
recognized as one of the county's top four team captains.
"The fact that our team raised enough money to win second place out of 70 teams is
something to be very proud of, especially in this economic climate," said CEO and
General Manager Michael J. Scanlon. "It speaks volumes about the commitment of the
individual employees of the transit district to give back to our community."
