Transit District to Host Statewide Transportation Conference
The San Mateo County Transit District is hosting the California Transportation
Association's 38th Annual Fall Conference, "Transit Takes Off," at the San Francisco
Airport Hyatt in Burlingame, Nov. 11 - 14.
The event brings together transit agency representatives from a variety of
disciplines throughout the industry including operations, planning, maintenance,
legislative, small operators, marketing, finance and technology with the industry's
top manufacturers, suppliers and consultants.
In addition, the Fall Conference acts as a catalyst for critical industry discussion
to take place. Attendees will come to hear from the state's political leaders and
industry visionaries.
Among the keynote speakers participating in the conference are State Senator Jackie
Speier (D - San Mateo/San Francisco) and State Senator Jim Costa (Ret.) (D). Sen.
Speier has been extremely influential in securing funding for major Bay Area
transportation projects like the Baby Bullet construction project currently underway
along the Caltrain right of way. Ret. Sen. Costa was one of the leaders in
establishing the high speed rail legislation that will go before voters next November
and if passed will link major Northern and Southern California cities by rail.
Mark Fenton of Walk America! and Fred Kent, president of Projects for Public Spaces,
will speak on the nexus between community design, walkability, access and transit use.
These speakers will demonstrate how making communities more "livable and walkable"
encourages the use of transit and makes transit corridors more attractive community
centers.
Many other panels will be offered with subjects ranging from how to increase
alternative revenue streams to marketing key services on tight budgets.
People interested in attending the conference can get registration information by
going to www.samtrans.com and clicking on the CTA Conference logo, or by calling (650)
508-6446.
