SamTrans Token Usage at All Time High
SamTrans passengers know that their best accessory fits neatly in their pocket,
jingles when it bumps against their change and gets them on the bus fast.
A record number of adult SamTrans riders have taken to using bus tokens, which
increased token usage 21 percent in January compared to the previous years.
The nearly five-year-old token program offers 10 local bus rides for the price of
eight. Tokens are sold in packs of 10. Adult tokens have a $1.25 ride value and cost
$10.50 per pack. Youth tokens have a 75-cent ride value and cost $6.75 per pack.
In addition to the discounted price, passengers use tokens because they eliminate the
need for exact change and they do not expire.
The discounted tokens are available at SamTrans headquarters in San Carlos and at
