SamTrans Last Transit Thursday Stop to be Multi-Lingual

SamTrans will reach out to a diverse transit audience for its final Transit Thursday event.

The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 28, 2:30 to 4 p.m., at the Belle Haven school and community library in Menlo Park. It is geared towards providing information for the Hispanic community. District staff will provide multilingual information to attendees and will hand out goody bags for the kids, while a SamTrans bus will be on display.

As part of the district’s participation in the American Public Transportation Association’s Communities in Motion program, district staffers have held “Transit Thursdays” each week in October.

The events are intended to highlight public transportation options and provide transit information.

SamTrans has held three events so far this month, reaching more than 500 existing and potential riders. The Transit Thursday promotion kicked off with an event at the Ikea store in East Palo Alto. SamTrans’ Regional Express Bus was on display at the popular home furnishings store to highlight the new express service and other transit options for the area.

In addition, seniors at El Camino Real Senior Center in South San Francisco were introduced to SamTrans’ low floor buses during a guided tour of Route 122. At Hillsdale Shopping Center, several hundred riders received goody bags as a “thank you” for riding SamTrans.

The transit district is San Mateo County’s mobility manager, operating SamTrans bus service, shuttle and paratransit service and partnering in the operation of the BART SFO extension service. SamTrans also is responsible for managing the Peninsula’s Caltrain service and administering the proceeds of San Mateo County’s Measure A half-cent sales tax, which was passed by voters in 1988 to make transportation improvements.
