The Caltrain schedule has been revamped as part of a bold plan to reduce the railroad's
budget deficit. A key component of the strategy is to increase the number of Baby
Bullet trains. Traditional local service will be replaced with local/express trains - a
train that operates for half its schedule as a local and the other half as an express -
with a timed transfer in Redwood City.
Both Caltrain and SamTrans also are implementing fare increases to help offset increased
operating costs. In July, Caltrain raised its fares an average of 17.5 percent. On
Sept. 1, SamTrans fares will be increased 20 to 25 percent.
Fare and schedule information is available by calling the customer service center, which
is open seven days a week, at 1.800.660.4287. People with hearing impairments may call
650-508-6448 (TTY only).
