Media Advisory: “Wrapped” Art Bus to Visit South San Francisco School
What:
A specially decorated SamTrans bus “wrapped” with student art work will visit
Martin Elementary School in South San Francisco. Two of the colorful posters
were produced by Martin School students. Students and their families will be
able to see the art work, take a tour inside the bus and pick up information
about riding the bus.
More than 350 students submitted artwork for “Art Takes a Bus Ride,” a
county-wide art contest held earlier this year. Nine winning entries were
reproduced as posters and displayed on the inside of SamTrans buses. The
artwork is being used again on the outside of a bus as a way to stimulate
interest in public transportation.
When:
9 a.m. to 10 a.m. - Thursday, October 20
Where:
Martin Elementary School
35 School St., South San Francisco
Directions:
From US 101 south, take the South San Francisco exit and merge onto Airport Blvd.
From US 101 north, take the Oyster Point Boulevard exit and turn left on Sister Cities
Boulevard and left on Airport Boulevard.
From Airport Boulevard; turn right on Linden Avenue and left on Spruce Avenue.
Who:
Students, teachers and families
Why:
On a typical weekday, more than 13,000 young people take trips on a SamTrans bus.
This represents more than 25 percent of the district’s total ridership. In addition
to a discounted youth fare and a monthly youth pass, the district also encourages young
people to ride the bus by offering a deeply discounted summer youth pass for riders 17
years old and younger.
The visit to Martin School is part of a month-long series of events known as
“Communities in Motion” by members of the American Public Transportation Association
to promote the benefits of public transportation
