SamTrans Elects Officers, Adds New Member
Jerry Hill was unanimously elected chair of the San Mateo County Transit District
Board of Directors at its January meeting.
Hill is a member of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and is appointed by that
body to sit on the transit district's board.
Jim Hartnett, a member of the Redwood City city council appointed by the Cities
Selection Committee as the South County representative, was elected vice chair.
The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors also appointed new member, Adrienne Tissier,
to the board to fill the second San Mateo County Board of Supervisor’s seat.
Tissier’s background includes extensive work in the areas of housing and
transportation as the Chief Executive Officer of Bay Relations.
Mike Nevin also was sworn in and assumed the public position formerly held by Al
Teglia, who resigned in December. The SamTrans Board cited the need to preserve
Nevin’s extensive experience and involvement in complex Bay Area transportation issues
as the reason to appoint him to that position.
In addition, public member Shirley Harris was re-appointed to serve another four-year
term.
The transit district board consists of nine members: two from the county board of
supervisors; one transportation expert, appointed by the board of supervisors; three
members appointed by the Cities Selection Committee to represent, north, central and
south San Mateo County; three public members (one of whom must reside on the
coastside) appointed by the above six members.
The SamTrans board meets the second Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m. at SamTrans'
offices, 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San Carlos.
The transit district operates a complex network of buses, shuttles and paratransit
vehicles throughout San Mateo County and into parts of San Francisco and Palo Alto.
It also is the managing agency for the San Mateo County Transportation Authority,
which manages the expenditure of Measure A funds, and is a partner in Caltrain rail
service and the BART extension to Millbrae.
