SamTrans Board Calls for Public Hearing
SamTrans Board of Directors will hold a public hearing on June 1 at 10 a.m. to receive
input on a proposed fare increase.
The fare increase is intended to help offset rising costs partially resulting from the
fuel hikes and increased costs for medical insurance. When SamTrans operational funding
was approved more than 25 years ago it was envisioned to subsidize a county-wide bus
service. Since then, SamTrans has taken on Paratransit service and become a partner in
Caltrain and the BART-SFO extension.
The Transit District has been drawing upon reserves to cover budget shortfalls and a
fare increase will help to lessen the demands on reserve funding. During the next
fiscal year, the SamTrans Board will address its structural deficit and look for ways to
alleviate some of the pressures on its budget.
The board will meet at SamTrans Administrative Offices, 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San
Carlos.
If the fare increase is approved, it will take effect Sept. 1. The following fares
would be adjusted:
Adult
- Adult Local Cash from $1.25 to $1.50
- Adult Out of San Francisco Cash from $2.50 to $3
- Adult Express Cash from $3.50 to $4
- Adult Tokens from $10.50 to $12.50
- Adult Monthly Pass from $40 to $48
- Adult Out of San Francisco Monthly Pass from $60 to $72
- Adult Express Monthly Pass from $108 to $128
Youth
- Youth Local Cash from 75 cents to $1
- Youth Out of San Francisco Cash from $1.50 to $2
- Youth Express Cash from $1.25 to $2
- Youth Tokens from $6.75 to $8.50
- Youth Monthly Pass from $22 to $29
- Youth “Needy Family” Monthly Pass from $16 to $20
- Summer Youth Pass from $25 to $35
Senior/Disabled
- Senior/Disabled Local Cash from 60 cents to 75 cents
- Senior/Disabled Out of San Francisco Cash from $1.20 to $1.50
- Senior/Disabled Express Cash All Day from $3.50 to $2 (Peak and Off-Peak fares
will be eliminated)
- Senior/Disabled Monthly Pass from $18 to $22
Paratransit Service
- One-Way from $2 to $2.50
- Book of 10 Tickets from $20 to $25
- Lifeline from $1 to $1.25
- Book of 10 Tickets from $10 to $12.50
Football Service
- Round-Trip from $12 to $15
- Four-Game Pass Book from $42 to $52
- Season Pass from $72 to $90
Año Nuevo Service
- Round-Trip from $8 to $10
Bay to Breakers Service
- Round-Trip from $10 to $12.50
