SamTrans Sprints to Bay to Breakers Race

Runners and spectators going to the Bay to Breakers race on Sunday, May 21, can conserve their energy by taking SamTrans to San Francisco.

SamTrans will operate three special express bus routes along the Peninsula to carry both spectators and runners to and from the race.

Route 853 will travel along El Camino Real with stops at Fifth Avenue in San Mateo; Howard Avenue in Burlingame; the Millbrae BART Station; and Jenevein and San Bruno avenues in San Bruno.

Route 870 will pick up riders only at Cañada College, in Redwood City.

Route 881 will depart from the Palo Alto Transit Center, then travel along El Camino Real with stops at Ravenswood Avenue in Menlo Park; Amherst Avenue in Atherton; the Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont and Hillsdale Caltrain stations; and the SamTrans Park and Ride lot at Highway 101 and 92 in San Mateo.

Buses will arrive at Second and Folsom streets, a few blocks from the starting line by 7:10 a.m. Buses will drops off spectators on Sunset Boulevard by 7:40 a.m.

A “Participants’ Bus” will be available for storing racers’ non-valuable items, such as food, water and extra clothes, during the race and will meet racers near the finish line.

Following the race, the first bus will depart at 10 a.m., or when full. The last bus will leave after the conclusion of the Footstock Concert at the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park at 2:30 p.m. Round-trip fare on SamTrans is $12.50.

Although advance registration to ride SamTrans special service is not required, it is recommended. Advance registrants will receive a free SamTrans keychain flashlight.
