Transit Board to Interview for Public Members

The San Mateo County Transit District Board of Directors will soon begin interviewing applicants for Public Board Member positions from the Southern and Central, and Coastside regions of the county. The deadline for applications for the Southern and Central regions was Dec. 31, 2005. Applications for the Coastside position will be accepted until Friday, Jan. 20, at 5 p.m. The application is available here.

“I’m thrilled to see this level of interest in civic participation,” said Jerry Hill, outgoing chair of the transit district board and newly elected president of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. “We received 26 applications, which is unprecedented, and affirms the wisdom of the new diversity policy the board adopted last year. This group of applicants brings interesting and varied qualifications and backgrounds. It will be difficult to choose.”

The board is comprised of nine members. Three are appointed by the county board of supervisors, three are appointed by the cities selection committee, and three public members are appointed by the other six transit district board members.

The board expects to appoint both new public members at its Feb. 22 meeting, at 1250 San Carlos Ave., in San Carlos.
