Media Advisory: SamTrans Announces Winners of Student Art Contest
What:
Seven winning entries from “Art Takes a Bus Ride”
will be announced on Wednesday. The Grand Prize
winner, which will be displayed as a “bus wrap” on a
regular service SamTrans bus and featured on a
monthly pass, also will be announced.
The winners, chosen from hundreds of submissions
from students in grades first through eighth, will be
displayed inside SamTrans buses beginning in
mid-August.
A slide show of the winning entries will be presented.
The artists, who range in age from six to 14, will be
in attendance.
In its second year, “Art Takes a Bus Ride” is a
county-wide art contest for students co-sponsored
by SamTrans and the San Mateo County Office
of Education.
When:
2:45 p.m. (estimated time), Wednesday, June 14, 2006
At the start of the regularly scheduled SamTrans board meeting
Where:
2nd floor Auditorium, 1250 San Carlos Avenue, San Carlos
Who:
Students and teachers from six San Mateo County Schools.
Why:
As schools struggle to provide arts education,
SamTrans and the San Mateo County Office of Education
are working together to give young artists an exciting new
venue to exhibit their work. The San Mateo County Transit
District is proud to be a partner in encouraging student
artists to develop their talents.
“Art Takes a Bus Ride” is a unique traveling exhibit.
Because the art work will be displayed inside
SamTrans buses, people will be able to visit this
“gallery” on their way to work, school or wherever
life takes them.
