Transit District swears in New Member/Appoints TA Rep
South San Francisco Councilmember Karyl Matsumoto
was sworn in today as the newest member of the San
Mateo County Transit District Board of Directors.
Matsumoto, who was appointed by the Cities Selection
Committee to represent northern San Mateo County,
succeeds Daly City Councilmember Michael Guingona.
"I am honored to serve with such a distinguished
group of people,” said Matsumoto, “and I will work
diligently to represent northern San Mateo County.
The district's board of directors consists of nine
appointed members from various leadership positions
in the community. Two of the members serve on the
county Board of Supervisors; one member is a
transportation expert appointed by the Board of
Supervisors; three city council members, one from
each judicial district in the county, are appointed by
Cities Selection Committee; and, three public members,
one of whom must reside on the coastside, are
appointed by the above six members.
The board of directors appointed Chair Marc Hershman
to serve as the SamTrans representative on the San
Mateo County Transportation Authority. The authority
administers the proceeds of a countywide half-cent
sales tax earmarked for transportation improvements.
