District to Hand Out Halloween Treats to Transit Riders

On Wednesday, Oct. 31, between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., staff from the San Mateo County Transit District will be engaging transit riders in “reverse trick-or-treating” at various Caltrain stations and SamTrans bus stops. Staff from the Peninsula Traffic Congestion Relief Alliance will pass out treats on commuter shuttles that connect with Caltrain and BART.

Armed with more than 1,000 goodie bags that read “Trick or Transit. Thanks for letting us take you to your favorite haunts,” staff will distribute a range of treats including note pads, Halloween pencils and candy. Some bags will include $5 Starbucks gift cards or free passes to the Body Worlds exhibit at the San Jose Tech Museum.

“It’s important to us that our customers know we appreciate them,” said SamTrans and Caltrain Marketing Manager Patrick Boland. “We know people have commute options and we don’t take our bus or train riders for granted. A token like this is an easy way to say ‘Thanks!’ and maybe they will encourage a friend to take transit too.”

The “Trick or Transit” outreach is being done in cooperation with the Alliance as part of the District’s month-long “Communities in Motion” transit promotion, to encourage new ridership and to show appreciation to current transit riders.
