SamTrans Marks World Diversity Day with Food, Dancing and Celebrations

SamTrans celebrated World Diversity Day on May 23. This was an opportunity for employees to learn from each other while engaging in cultural dialogue, development and appreciation. Each year, the SamTrans is excited to highlight diversity within its own community and display the cultural backgrounds that contribute to an inclusive environment. This year, events were held at three bus agency locations, including the headquarters in San Carlos and bus yards in South San Francisco and San Carlos. At those events, employees enjoyed food and entertainment from around the globe. Employees also pinned their ancestry on a world map, and answered the question, “what does diversity mean to you?”

Some say the highlight of the day was a Mexican-inspired, Oakland-based dance troupe, Ballet Folklórico Mexicano de Carlos Moreno. The events inspired collective thought and engagement which SamTrans hopes will continue to flourish throughout the agency. SamTrans looks forward to celebrating World Diversity Day in 2024.
