SamTrans Announces Bus Operator and Maintenance Employees of the Year

Rene Ebro, a 29-year veteran bus operator, and Daniel Jimenez, an 18-year maintenance department expert, have been named SamTrans’ 2016 Employees of the Year.

SamTrans annually recognizes the achievements of its bus operators and maintenance workers with Employee of the Year honors, and Ebro and Jimenez were given those awards at the agency’s Board of Directors monthly meeting in March. To be considered for the Employee of the Year Award, SamTrans employees must not have had any preventable accidents, unexcused absences or disciplinary actions on their 2016 record.

Ebro joined SamTrans in April 1988, and can often be seen driving a bus on Routes 61, 225, 296 and ECR. When he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing billiards and chess, photography and traveling.

“This is the highlight of my career,” said Ebro, who lives in Santa Clara. “I really enjoy my work and public service. For me, getting people from Point A to Point B safely is always my #1 priority.”

Since joining the transit agency in August 1999, Jimenez has worked his way up the ranks from cleaning the buses as utility worker to fixing the buses as a top-level mechanic.

“SamTrans is a great place to work and I enjoy working as a team with my co-workers,” Jimenez said.

When he’s not working, the South San Francisco resident also enjoys spending time with his family, and going to garage sales because he collects antiques.

“It is so special to honor dedicated employees like Rene and Daniel, who are a great credit to this organization,” said General Manager/CEO Jim Hartnett. “We are very lucky and happy to have them as part of the SamTrans family.”
