Security Tips

  • Emergency: If it's an emergency, immediately call 911.
  • See Something Say Something: If you see anything suspicious or witness unlawful activity, notify the bus operator or call the Transit Police at 1-877-723-7245.
  • Always stay alert to your surroundings, including other people nearby. Wait for the bus in well-lit areas—many SamTrans shelters have solar-powered lighting.

Transit Travel Tips

After boarding the bus:

  • Hold on to railings and steady yourself to prevent falls.
  • Familiarize yourself with bus exits.
  • Listen for bus announcements.

To have the best ride possible, please follow these transit tips:

  • Plan your trip. SamTrans buses stop only at designated stops. Know in advance where you want to get off. Ask the operator if unsure.
  • Be ready to board. Fold strollers and stow them under the seat. Have fare ready.
  • Dress appropriately. Shirts and shoes are required.
  • No eating or drinking onboard.
  • No smoking or e-cigarettes on buses or at bus stops.
  • Yield seats behind the operator to seniors or customers with disabilities.
  • Scooters: Must be folded and stored while on the bus. Non-folding scooters are not permitted.
  • Radios and music players: Use earphones only.
  • Cell phone use: Keep calls minimal and speak quietly.
  • Stop requests: Pull the cord before the bus reaches your stop.
  • Bike racks: Let the operator know before you remove your bike.
  • Exiting: Use the rear door unless removing a bike, allowing boarding passengers to use the front door.
  • Enjoy the ride!

New Policy: E-Bikes and E-Scooters on SamTrans Buses

Effective immediately:

  • E-Scooters: Must be folded or stored so they do not block aisles.
  • E-Bikes: Allowed inside the bus only if exterior bike racks are full, and must be placed in the designated ADA area.
    • If a passenger with a disability requires the ADA area, you must relocate your e-bike or wait for the next bus.

Thank you for helping keep buses safe and accessible for all riders.
