SamTrans and Caltrain Get You to the San Mateo County Fair

The San Mateo County Fair is here and SamTrans and Caltrain are your ride to one of summer’s most anticipated events. SamTrans is one of the sponsors of the fair which runs from June 10 through 18 and will be held at the San Mateo County Event Center.

Families can turn their annual visit to this traditional summer event into an important lesson on the benefits of public transportation. Taking SamTrans or Caltrain to the fair reduces greenhouse gases, saves money and eliminates the stress of driving in traffic.

SamTrans will be participating in the county fair by hosting a booth on Monday, June 12 (Kids Day), and Tuesday, June 13 (Seniors Day). The booth will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday and 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday. It will be located in front of the Entertainment Building near the front entrance.

SamTrans will also participate in the first-ever Spring Into Summer Parade, which will kick-off the Fair at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10.

SamTrans’ staff will be there to assist with trip planning to all the destinations accessible via bus and train. Visit the booth for a fun time of games and prizes.

While supplies last, SamTrans and Caltrain will be giving out glow-in-the-dark Frisbees and other fun items.

The fairgrounds are served by SamTrans Routes ECR, 292 and 295.

The closest bus stops are located in the following places:

  • El Camino Real & Hillsdale Boulevard: Route 295 (weekdays only)
  • Delaware Street & Pacific Boulevard: Route 292
  • El Camino Real & 25th Avenue: Route ECR

Caltrain also provides service to the fair from both the Hillsdale and Hayward Park station. After arriving at the Hillsdale station, customers can walk the short distance along a paved path to the fairgrounds main entrance. Riders that depart at Hayward Park can take Concur Drive to Delaware Street.

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain has enjoyed more than five years of consecutive monthly ridership increases, surpassing more than 60,000 average weekday riders earlier this year. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad celebrated 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
