The SamTrans Maintenance department is the nerve center of the public transit system in San Mateo County. Responsible for maintaining the fleet of buses, Redi-Wheel paratransit vehicles, non-revenue vehicles, inventory stores, and on-board technologies.

SamTrans will provide you with training and advancement opportunities. From Lead Mechanic to Manager, Maintenance, most of our leadership has been promoted from within. Hiring Process

  1. Minimum Qualification Screening
    • Clean driving record (no more than 2 points on your license, no suspensions or reckless driving convictions within 7 years, no accidents within 5 years)
    • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and potentially a variety of shifts
  2. Skills Test, Practical Interview & Panel Interview
  3. DOT Physical Exam and Drug Test
  4. Must possess a valid Class B Permit or License with Passenger & Air Brake Endorsements before starting training

SamTrans offers the highest retention incentive in the entire SF Bay Area. 

As a valued member of the team, you are eligible for a $2000 incentive at the end of their probationary period as well as an additional $2000 after your first year.
