It’s not the biggest change in our lives lately, but SamTrans’ microtransit experiment (called SamTrans OnDemand) in Pacifica’s Linda Mar neighborhood has come to an end.
As of Monday, May 4, the FLX shuttle has resumed service running a loop twice an hour through Linda Mar, making stops at the Park & Ride, shopping centers, community centers, parks, libraries, schools and other key destinations, and offering customers the ability to call ahead and schedule pickups within one half mile of the route a day in advance.
You can find both a map and specific timetable information online at www.SamTrans.com/FLXP.
While OnDemand has ended, it has given us at SamTrans more information that will help us to better provide transit service in Linda Mar. Lessons learned will be incorporated into Reimagine SamTrans, an ongoing project to re-evaluate and improve our service. Riders are encouraged to offer feedback at www.ReimagineSamTrans.com.
The pilot also gave us lots of interesting data about how microtransit works, as this was the first of its kind in our system. We’ll be looking at that, as well as similar services offered by other transit systems, and seeing if we can find a new home for affordable and accessible microtransit services in San Mateo County.
