San Mateo County Transit District Seeks One Public Member for Board of Director Seat

The San Mateo County Transit District Board of Directors is accepting applications to fill one Public Member seat representing the Coastside. Public members are appointed to represent the diverse residents of the county. The successful candidate will be one of nine directors responsible for setting policy for the Transit District, which operates SamTrans bus service. The seat will have a four-year term beginning January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2030.

Applicants must be residents of the coastal region of San Mateo County and cannot be an elected official or have served as an elected official within the previous 12 months. Applications are available online in English, Chinese, and Spanish at: https://www.samtrans.com/about-samtrans/board-directors or inquire for a hardcopy by calling 650-551-6108. Applications are due no later than 5:00pm on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

La Junta Directiva del Distrito de Transporte Público del Condado de San Mateo está aceptando candidaturas para cubrir un puesto de miembro público que represente a la región costera. Los miembros públicos son designados para representar a los diversos residentes del condado. El candidato exitoso será uno de nueve directores responsables de establecer la política del Distrito de Transporte Público que opera el servicio de autobuses de SamTrans. About the SamTrans Board of Directors

The Board of Directors serve four-year terms and consist of nine members from various leadership positions in the community with the following composition:

  • Two members from the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors
  • One transportation expert appointed by the Board of Supervisors
  • Three city councilmembers appointed by the City Selection Committee. Each councilmember represents a judicial district in San Mateo County
  • Three public members, one of whom must reside on the Coastside, appointed by the above six members

The Board and its committees meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2:00 pm to determine overall policy for the District. Agendas are available approximately one week before the meetings.  

Correspondence to the Board may be emailed to Board@SamTrans.com or mailed to 166 N Rollins Rd., Millbrae, CA 94030, which will be compiled and posted weekly on Friday (holidays excluded). To be included in the Board's weekly correspondence reading file, it must be received by 2:00 PM the day before. For the week of the Board meeting, it must be received by 2:00 PM the day before the Board meeting. All correspondence, including personal information (i.e. names and email addresses), shall become disclosable public records.
