SamCoast — Rural and Southern Coastside Service

SamCoast is a shared ride service for residents and visitors traveling in the more rural and southern parts of the San Mateo County coast — areas where fixed bus routes don’t reach. You call ahead, book your trip, and a SamCoast vehicle picks you up at your door and drops you at your destination.

SamCoast is open to everyone. No eligibility process is required.

All trips must begin or end within the service area. SamCoast connects to SamTrans bus routes 117 and 294 in Half Moon Bay.

Service area: South of 2nd Street in Montara, west of Highway 35 (Skyline Blvd), north of Loma Mar, and south along Highway 1 to the Santa Cruz County border.

Operating hours:

  • Weekdays: 6:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Weekends: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Reservations: Must be booked 1–7 days in advance. Reservation lines are open weekdays and weekends, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Cost: $4.25 per trip | $1.75 for lifeline/low-income passengers.

Lifeline reduced fares are available to San Mateo County residents who receive Supplemental Security Income, General Assistance, or Medi-Cal. Call 650-508-6241 ext. 4 to request an application.

RediCoast — Paratransit Service for People with Disabilities

RediCoast is a dedicated service for people with disabilities who are unable to use regular SamTrans buses — some of the time or all the time. Like SamCoast, it offers curb-to-curb shared rides throughout the Coastside, but it is a paratransit program with its own eligibility requirements and booking process.

All SamTrans buses are ADA accessible, and many people with disabilities ride fixed routes without difficulty. RediCoast is for those trips — or those riders — where that isn’t possible.

To use RediCoast, you must apply and be certified before booking any trips. Trips must be booked at least one day in advance.

Getting Started with RediCoast

To apply, call 650-366-4856. Staff will walk you through the eligibility process.

Once certified, call the number printed on your RediCoast ID card to book rides.
