San Mateo County Transit District Supports Newsom Budget

The San Mateo County Transit District supports the expanded investment in transportation in Governor Newsom’s recently announced budget.

With a focus on job creation, increasing connectivity and protecting our climate, this budget calls for $2 billion for local roads and streets, $1.4 billion for Zero Emissions Buses, $500 million for active transportation and $500 million for grade crossings.

“SamTrans has a challenging road ahead to get to a 100% zero emissions fleet by 2038,” said SamTrans Board Chair Charles Stone. “This investment will make that a much smoother journey, ensuring that SamTrans riders will be riding modern, state-of-the-art buses while they fight back against climate change.”

“I’m absolutely thrilled to see the governor prioritize active transportation and railroad grade separations, two issues that pose a great challenge in San Mateo County” said San Mateo County Transportation Authority Chair Emily Beach. “These funds will ensure that cyclists, pedestrians, transit users and drivers alike will be able to get where they need to go safely and efficiently, helping to make our communities more whole.”
