SamTrans Fares Change With the New Year

The fare changes approved by the SamTrans Board of Directors will go into effect on January 1, 2020.

An Adult one way fare will remain at $2.25, while the cost of the Local Day Pass will be $1 less, going from $5.50 to $4.50. Eligible Discount and Youth One-way ride will remain at $1.10 and the Local Day Pass will cost $2.

There will be no charge for transferring between local SamTrans routes within a two hour window when using Clipper or the SamTrans Mobile app. The agency will be conducting outreach efforts next week in order to promote the use of the Clipper and the app so riders can take advantage of this new feature.

Routes 292, 397 and 398 will no longer have an additional charge for riders departing from San Francisco. Adult riders on express routes will now pay a one-way Express fare of $4.50.

SamTrans will also no longer sell bulk metal tokens at a discounted rate and is replacing them with paper ones. Riders can still use metal tokens they have already purchased until the end of 2020.
