SamTrans to Start New Series of Online Outreaches

In an effort to build engagement with our riders during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, SamTrans will begin a weekly series of Instagram Live outreaches beginning tomorrow at lunchtime.

The brown bag sessions will feature SamTrans staff from various departments, such Bus Operations, Bus Maintenance and Bus Planning that will share information about activities and projects going on at the transit agency.

This Friday’s conversation will focus on SamTrans’ participation in the new Clipper START pilot program and will be in both English and Spanish. The program allows qualifying adult, lower-income SamTrans riders to receive a 50% fare discount off the adult single ride fare. Each Live session is expected to last between 15 to 30 minutes every Friday during the month of February.

Shortly after the shelter-in-place order in March 2020, SamTrans ridership dropped between 60% and 65%. Since then, the agency has been quick to respond to this new reality, improving upon its cleaning processes, encouraging safer behavior among riders and operators, and continuing to provide a vital service for the essential workers that depend on it.
