SamTrans is once again offering free bus service on New Year’s Eve, giving people a safe, convenient way to enjoy their celebrations without worrying about driving or parking as they ring in the new year. Free fares will be available systemwide from 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, through 3 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
On New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1, SamTrans will operate on its holiday service schedule with reduced bus service across the system. Buses will run on Sunday schedules in observance of the holiday. Fixed-route service will operate less frequently than on weekdays, and routes that do not typically run on Sundays will not be in service.

Administrative offices of the San Mateo County Transit District, which manages SamTrans, will be closed on New Year’s Day.
