The San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) is looking to fill four seat vacancies on its Measure W Citizens Oversight Committee

The committee has 15 volunteer members who represent a variety of community segments.

Currently, SamTrans is looking for representatives from these sectors:

  • Environmental or sustainability organization

  • People with disabilities

  • Youth and youth transit riders (under 21 and interested in transit)

  • City/County Association of Governments (C/CAG) of San Mateo County’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee

The application period is now open and runs through Oct. 27.

COC Chair Rosanne Foust says it’s important to fill open vacancies in order to get the work done with a board that has full representation.

“When San Mateo County voters approved Measure W and placed their trust in SamTrans to invest their tax dollars in transportation solutions, I wanted to help by serving on the COC,” said Foust, who also leads the San Mateo County Economic Development Association (SAMCEDA). “It is critical that residents and stakeholders serve on the COC to ensure the public has a role in the process and ensure transparency and trust with public funds.”

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) is responsible for distributing the millions of dollars collected annually as part of Measure W’s half-cent sales tax.

As part of that funding process, the TA relies on the COC to ensure that tax proceeds are invested in a way that is consistent with the measure’s guidelines.

Applicants are reviewed by the district and then qualified representatives are brought to the SamTrans Board of Directors to appoint new members. The board hopes to fill vacancies by the end of the year.
