The San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) is looking to fill six seat vacancies on its Measure W Citizens Oversight Committee (COC).

The committee has 15 volunteer members who represent a variety of community segments.

Currently, SamTrans is looking for representatives from these sectors:

  • County Supervisor District 1 (includes Burlingame, Hillsborough, Millbrae, and portions of San Bruno and South San Francisco; the unincorporated communities of San Mateo Highlands, Baywood Park and Burlingame Hills; and the San Francisco Airport)
  • County Supervisor District 4 (includes Redwood City, East Palo Alto, and the portions of Menlo Park east of El Camino Real, including the Belle Haven neighborhood, and the unincorporated community of North Fair Oaks)
  • Representing People with Disabilities
  • Representing the Senior Community
  • SamTrans Citizens Advisory Committee
  • Caltrain Citizens Advisory Committee

The application period opens Oct. 16 through Nov. 15.

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) is responsible for distributing the millions of dollars collected annually as part of Measure W’s half-cent sales tax. As part of that funding process, the TA relies on the COC to ensure tax proceeds have been invested in a way that is consistent with the measure’s guidelines.

Applicants are reviewed by the District and then qualified representatives are brought to the SamTrans Board of Directors to appoint new members. The Board hopes to fill vacancies by the end of the year.
