SamTrans is proud to join agencies across the Bay Area in celebrating Transit Month 2025 with a series of events that highlight the essential role of public transportation in building sustainable, connected communities. This year’s celebration includes the Ride Like a Leader campaign, special rider appreciation activities, and interactive community events designed to inspire more people to discover and embrace transit.
Ride Like a Leader: Sharing Transit Stories
At the heart of SamTrans’ Transit Month activities is the Ride Like a Leader campaign, which encourages board members, elected officials, and community leaders to share their positive transit experiences with the public.
Many local leaders already ride SamTrans, and this campaign shines a spotlight on their stories. By posting about their trips, leaders help show that public transit is not only reliable and sustainable but also a lifeline that connects people to jobs, schools, healthcare and local businesses across the Peninsula. These stories reinforce the role SamTrans plays in supporting the regional economy and improving quality of life.
“Ride Like a Leader is about more than just getting on the bus,” said SamTrans CEO April Chan. “It’s about demonstrating accessibility, sustainability and leadership in action. When our board members and elected officials share their stories, it highlights how SamTrans supports mobility, sustainability and economic vitality throughout the Peninsula.”
All Aboard Bay Area – Rider Appreciation Events
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, SamTrans staff and Board members will meet riders in person at the Daly City BART bus center and in the downtowns of Pacifica and Half Moon Bay. Riders can expect friendly greetings, free swag and helpful transit information as a thank-you for choosing SamTrans.
SamTrans CEO April Chan will also take part in the All Aboard CEO Ride Along on Friday, Sept. 26, joining transit leaders from across the region for a tour of the North Bay. The day will include riding the Golden Gate Ferry to Larkspur and connecting to the SMART Train, spotlighting the value of seamless regional transit connections.
Meet the Bus – Student Engagement
On Tuesday, Sept. 16, SamTrans will host a “Meet the Bus” event at Cesar Chavez Ravenswood Middle School during its Back to School Night. Students will have the opportunity to step aboard a SamTrans bus, learn how it works and gain confidence in how to ride safely. The event underscores SamTrans’ commitment to helping the next generation see transit as a safe, reliable and accessible way to get around.
