As transit ridership continues to rebound, SamTrans is joining fellow Bay Area agencies for All Aboard Bay Area Transit Day — a celebration of public transit’s critical role in reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality, and connecting communities. The event also marks the beginning of Spare the Air’s summer smog season.
This regional effort, led by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the Bay Area Air District, highlights the essential economic, environmental, and social benefits that public transit provides.
To commemorate the day, regional transit leaders will gather for a press event at the San Francisco Ferry Plaza on Tuesday, May 6 at 10 a.m. to spotlight service improvements and collaborative initiatives that are making transit more efficient, sustainable, and rider friendly.
“Local transit is the backbone of the Bay Area’s thriving economy, and SamTrans is proud to celebrate alongside our fellow agencies as we see ridership climbing throughout the region,” said SamTrans General Manager/CEO April Chan, who will speak at the event. “We’ve experienced tremendous growth ourselves and we were recently honored by our peers as one of the best transit systems in the nation.”
SamTrans continues to strengthen regional connections with improved service linking riders to major hubs, including the Salesforce Transit Center, Daly City BART, Millbrae Station, Oyster Point Ferry, Redwood City Transit Center, and Palo Alto Station.
To engage riders and add some fun to their day, SamTrans will also offer:
- An All Aboard Spotify Playlist curated from songs suggested by local riders — the perfect soundtrack for your commute.
- A Social Media Challenge to ride multiple Bay Area transit systems. Riders are encouraged to tag SamTrans and use #AllAboardSamTrans. Some participants with the most creative journeys will win SamTrans swag bags.
- Ambassador Pop-Ups at a few key transit hubs, where SamTrans representatives will hand out swag and thank riders in person.
