The Dumbarton rail corridor in southeastern San Mateo County
SamTrans has opened a community survey to gather public input for Reimagine Dumbarton, a planning initiative to explore improved transit, walking and biking connections along the Dumbarton Corridor on the Peninsula.
The project is exploring the feasibility of introducing fast, reliable zero-emission bus service, making it safer and easier to travel by transit, bike or on foot between communities in southeastern San Mateo County. And to avoid any confusion: this survey is about the Dumbarton rail corridor — not the Highway 84 Dumbarton Bridge.
Reimagine Dumbarton seeks to understand how people travel today and what improvements they want for future connections between East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, North Fair Oaks and Redwood City. This community-driven study will help identify transportation needs, explore potential alternatives and guide next steps in planning through winter 2027.
“We’re really excited about the idea of activating this corridor for local mobility purposes – helping residents and workers get to more places on fast, reliable transit, expanding ways for people to get places safely by walking and bicycling, and creating new connections between communities currently divided by the corridor,” said SamTrans Director of Planning Millie Tolleson. “We’re looking for input on the best ways to meet the transportation needs of the community. This feedback will directly influence how we think about safer, cleaner and more reliable connections for people walking, biking and taking transit.”
The survey is available now at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ReimagineDumbarton
The Reimagine Dumbarton initiative will explore improvements that could include enhanced bus service using zero-emission vehicles, better pedestrian and bicycle crossings, and stronger connections to local and regional transit networks. SamTrans will host multiple rounds of outreach through the planning process and will share updates as the study progresses.
