Michael Keating, a 35-year bus operator, and Nestor Tiongco, a 10-year maintenance mechanic, have been named SamTrans’ 2022 Employees of the Year.

Each year, SamTrans recognizes the achievements of its bus operators and bus maintenance staff with Employee of the Year honors, and Keating and Tiongco were formally recognized at the agency’s March Board of Directors meeting today. To be considered for the Employee of the Year award, SamTrans employees must not have had any preventable accidents, unexcused absences, or disciplinary actions on their 2022 record.

Keating began his career with SamTrans in 1988 as a full-time bus operator. Before joining SamTrans he worked as a bus operator for Union City Transit. Keating has thrice been named Employee of the Month.

Tiongco joined SamTrans Bus Maintenance in 2013 as a utility worker. He was promoted to Mechanic C in only one-year and promoted again to his current position of Mechanic B in 2015. Tiongco was named Maintenance Employee of the Month in May 2022. Prior to coming to SamTrans, Tiongco worked at the Toyota facility in Fremont for over 18 years as an auto-mechanic.
