SamTrans recognizes the Juneteenth holiday

Media Contact: Mahmoud Abunie, 650.730.6201

SamTrans will recognize the Juneteenth holiday on Thursday, June 19, by closing the San Mateo County Transit District administrative offices for the day. However, SamTrans bus service will operate on a regular weekday schedule.

Juneteenth commemorates the day — June 19, 1865 — when the last enslaved African Americans learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

The Customer Service Center will operate with normal hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The San Mateo County Transit District operates 74 routes and two on-demand service areas. Funded in part by a half-cent sales tax, the district also provides administrative support for Caltrain and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority. SamTrans has provided bus service to San Mateo County customers since 1976.
