SamTrans seeks seven volunteers for Measure W Citizens Oversight Committee

The San Mateo County Transit District is seeking seven volunteers to join its Measure W Citizens Oversight Committee and help ensure Measure W transportation sales tax funds are used transparently and in accordance with voter-approved guidelines. 

Measure W is a half-cent transportation sales tax measure in San Mateo County. It generates over $100 million annually for transportation investments. The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (SMCTA) and SamTrans each administer 50% of Measure W revenue. 

The 15-member Citizens Oversight Committee provides independent oversight of Measure W expenditures. The committee helps ensure the SMCTA and SamTrans invest Measure W funds in projects and programs consistent with the measure’s requirements. 

SamTrans is seeking representatives from the following community sectors: 

  • County Supervisor District 3, including Atherton, Belmont, Half Moon Bay, Menlo Park, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Carlos, Woodside and unincorporated communities, including El Granada, La Honda, Montara, Moss Beach and Pescadero 
  • County Supervisor District 5, including Brisbane, Colma, Daly City, San Bruno, South San Francisco and unincorporated Broadmoor Village, San Bruno Mountain Park and Brisbane Quarry 
  • City/County Association of Governments Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee 
  • Environmental or sustainability organization 
  • People with disabilities 
  • San Mateo County Transportation Authority Community Advisory Committee 
  • SamTrans Community Advisory Committee 

Committee members serve as volunteers and represent a broad range of community perspectives. 

The application period opens today, Oct. 5, and closes Wednesday, Nov. 4. SamTrans will review applications and forward qualified candidates to the SamTrans Board of Directors for appointment. The board expects to fill the vacancies by the end of 2026.

The San Mateo County Transit District operates 74 routes and two on-demand service areas. Funded in part by a half-cent sales tax, the district also provides administrative support for Caltrain and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority. SamTrans has provided bus service to San Mateo County customers since 1976.
