SamTrans Participates in the San Mateo County Stand Down

SamTrans is honored to be a first-time participant in the San Mateo County Stand Down event taking place this Friday, May 5, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the San Mateo County Fair Grounds, 2495 S. Delaware St., San Mateo.

Through the efforts of the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV), Stand Down has become recognized as “the most valuable outreach tool to help homeless veterans in the nation today.”

This one- to three-day event takes place throughout the year all across the country gathering numerous agencies and non-profits together to assist homeless veterans and those at risk of becoming homeless by providing supplies and connecting them to services and free benefits such as clothing, food, personal care items, health screenings and counseling.

SamTrans will be on-hand to provide information and assistance to veterans and introduce them to the SamTrans Veterans Mobility Corps and Mobility Ambassador program. They will learn transit options and how to become mobile, active and connected to their community.

Veterans attending the event should bring proof of service form DD214, birth certificate, social security card and proof of mailing address or shelter statement.  Those wishing to donate or volunteer may contact the San Mateo County Human Services Agency at 650.802.5090.

For transit information call Customer Service at 1-800-660-4287 (TTY 650-508-6448).
