Transit District Board Approves New Mobile App Contract

By this fall, SamTrans customers will have the ability to purchase their bus fare and plan their trips all from their smart phone devices.

During its April meeting on Wednesday, the SamTrans Board of Directors approved award of a $478,000 two-year contract with New York-based Bytemark, Inc. for a SamTrans Mobility App Solution.

The Mobility App, which is anticipated to enhance the overall customer experience, will offer One-way and Day Pass tickets for adults, youth and eligible discount (senior, disabled and Medicare cardholders) riders. The app also will provide real-time arrival/departure information for trip planning on SamTrans and other transit systems in the region. The Mobility App will run on iOS and Android operating systems and will accept major credit and debit cards.

The app is expected to go live on September 1. Shortly after the launch, the Mobility App also will provide customers with the ability to purchase parking tickets for the Colma/BART parking lot.
