SamTrans set to roll out new service changes on Sunday to support school return and regional transfers

SamTrans will implement service changes effective Sunday, Aug. 3, to align bus schedules with school bell times and improve timed transfers at key regional transit hubs, including Daly City BART and Palo Alto Caltrain.

With the start of the 2025–26 school year, school-oriented service will resume on Monday, Aug. 4. Several routes will see schedule adjustments designed to better serve students throughout San Mateo County.

In addition to school service, most routes serving Daly City BART and Palo Alto Caltrain will have updated schedules to improve timed transfers between SamTrans and regional partners, while continuing to support key transfers within the SamTrans system. These schedule changes support the Bay Area TRANSFER Plan, a regional effort to strengthen interagency coordination and better serve riders who use multiple transit operators to complete trips.

“We’re focused on making the rider experience more reliable and convenient, especially for those transferring between services like SamTrans, Caltrain and BART,” said SamTrans Director of Planning Millie Tolleson. “By adjusting our schedules as part of the TRANSFER Plan, we’re making it easier for riders to complete trips across agencies.”

As part of the update, routes such as 110, 121, SKY and PCX in the Daly City area will depart slightly earlier or later to better align with BART arrivals and departures. Farther down on the Peninsula, Routes 280 and 281 will shift to better connect with Caltrain service at the Palo Alto Transit Center.

Minor route-level adjustments are also being made across the SamTrans system to address traffic conditions and improve operational performance. These include:

  • Route 49 will modify its loop to avoid traffic delays on West Manor Drive in Pacifica.
  • Route 86’s final stop in Redwood City will shift to the northbound side of Middlefield Road to improve reliability.
  • Route 117 will adjust departure times at Moonridge Apartments and Linda Mar to improve connections with Route 110.

A complete list of changes is available at www.samtrans.com/scheduleupdates.

SamTrans updates its schedules four times a year to ensure routes reflect current rider needs, school calendars and regional travel patterns. The next service change is scheduled for November.
